“Commitment to Mature Faith”

This prayer service/ program offers a prayerful reflection on Christian discipleship. We walk with Martha of Bethany, sister of Mary, through her experience of Lazarus’ death. She is the one who hears Jesus’ pronouncement, “I am the resurrection and the life.” (See John 11:25.) And she is the one, in this Gospel, who proclaims Jesus as “the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.” (See John 11:27.) Then, turning to more recent days, we hear Corrie Ten Boom’s experience of committing herself to an ever maturing faith in Jesus, even in and through the dark days of the Holocaust. And we come to recognize what such commitment may mean in our own lives, as we are invited to come forward to receive ashes on our foreheads.
