“A Call to Care for Our Common Home”: A PRAYER SERVICE CREATED AND LED BY “THE WOMEN OF THE WELL.”

What kind of world do you want to hand on to your daughters and sons, literal and figurative? The Women of the Well have imagined just such a world in this prayer service, complete with Scripture, story, poetry, song and dance.

“In the beginning….” Who can imagine such stunning beauty and not respond with a song of praise, like Marty Haugen’s “Canticle of the Sun!” Over the eons and centuries, creation was well tended. Indeed, twelfth century Rhineland mystic, abbess, poet, composer, and preacher rejoiced in the lush beauty of God’s creation, often referring to the “juiciness” of God.
And yet, in recent days there is cause for lament, with too many people ignoring, and even reviling the cries of the earth. At the same time, more and more people are hearing and heeding these cries of our one and only home. The Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai is one such person; and, of course, Pope Francis is pleading with us all to deal tenderly with our common home.

Please come, be inspired, enough to join the Women of the Well and so many others in praise of God’s good creation, through our lives of prayer and action.
