This was originally scheduled for January 7th as an Epiphany celebration; now, in May, you will encounter 6 most remarkable women who followed Jesus wherever he led: early Church leaders Prisca and Phoebe, Perputua (early 3rd century martyr), St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Josephina Bakhita, and St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein).

Feast of St. Catherine of Siena at St. Boniface Church, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
This program highlights the women leaders of the early Church; refreshments will be served after the program in the gathering space. While this program is at St. Boniface, it is sponsored, as well, by St. Mary’s Church, downtown, and Blessed Sacrament Church.
Retreat day for “Women Who Walk with Wisdom,” 10/19/2013

“Etty Hillesum and Corrie Ten Boom, Women Peace-Makers,” 11/19/2013
Tuesday evening, November 19th, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.,
Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse, 1437 Blossom Road, Rochester, NY
This event is sponsored by the Mercy Prayer Center.
Both of these young Dutch women were profoundly affected by the Nazi occupation. Etty (short for Esther) died in Auschwitz in November, 1943, but not before writing and working for peace, from deep within; Corrie and her family hid Jews in their home until they were “found out” and imprisoned. Corrie lived many years, and continued to work for peace among all people.
“The Good Sisters” – 1/17/2013
“The Good Sisters,” first presented at St. Monica’s Church on August 19th, will be offered at St. John the Evangelist Church (at Peace of Christ parish), Humboldt Street, on Thursday evening, January 17th, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
This program was written by Marilyn Catherine and represents the results of her interviews with 26 local women religious. How and why did they enter their orders? What was the impact of Vatican II on their lives? What is their mission today?
